Tehran Prosecutor Denies Furlough to Abdolfattah Soltani

abdolfatah-soltaniThe International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran - Despite the family’s presentation of a property deed as collateral, Tehran Prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi refused to grant furlough to imprisoned lawyer Abdolfattah Soltani, the latter’s daughter told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran. Maedeh Soltani told the Campaign that the Prosecutor refused her father’s furlough request two days before Persian New Year, known as Nowruz, which prisoners are often allowed to spend with their families.

siamak-mehrPersian2English - (Persian report originally published by Kaleme on March 27, 2013) Mitra Pourshajari, the daughter of Siamak Mehr, a blogger in Ghezel Hesar prison has told Kaleme that she had asked the Supervising Assistant Prosecutor of the prison to explain the reason that they won’t sign off on her ailing father’s furlough request. According to her, he answered, “I’m not willing to endanger my life for your [father]. I won’t even allow him one hour of furlough…Your father has been charged for crimes that put the country in danger. If they intended to grant [him] furlough the Prosecutor would have [personally] signed off on it instead of sending the case file [to us].”
