taheri-clam2IOPHR – Members of International organisation to preserve human rights in Iran, yesterday met with the members of European Parliament to protest human rights violations in Iran, and ask for the MEPs to demand that Iran stops the suppression and percussions of its Citizens. They also asked the MEPs to ask the Iranian authorities to stop the illegal execution of Dr Mohammad Taheri. The MEPs were also asked to sign the following petition:

Glass workers laid off after forced vacation

ILNA - One hundred and six workers at the Abgineh Glass Factory have been laid off following a compulsory 10-day vacation.

ILNA reports that upon returning to work after the 10-day forced vacation, the workers were prevented from entering the factory site.

The report adds that 48 of the workers from the crystal department had not been paid wages for over five months.

The company has cited a shortage of work as the reason for the layoff. The factory has 100 permanent workers and 200 contract workers.

The factory has a 43-year history of producing various forms of glass.

Radio Zamaneh - In an initiative by the Association of Women Citizens, a group of Iranian women calling themselves the "Friends of Nargess Mohammadi" gathered at the Tehran home of the prominent human rights activist to express their concern about her health in prison.

The Feminist School website reported on Wednesday May 22 that a number of prominent figures visited the family of Nargess Mohammadi in protest against her arrest, including Gohar Eshghi (the mother of Sattar Beheshti), Faezeh Hashemi, Mehdieh Golroo and Shima Qosheh.

The group issued a statement at the end of their gathering, saying their protests are aimed at all of the current adverse trends and obstacles that make life hard for women all across the country. The statement refers to "anti-women policies" and the arrest of female activists such as Nargess Mohammadi, Bahareh Hedayat, Sajedeh Arabsorkhi, Atena Daemi and many more.

"We have gathered here today to raise our voice and say that Nargess Mohammadi has committed no crime, so release her," the statement reads.
The statement was signed by 50 activists present at the gathering.
